Having been relegated from 1 division above Addingham last season, this friendly against Skipton Town would give Addingham an idea of the level of 1 of their competitors and what they are up against this season. With Sharpe and Johnson up front, to the delight of the supporters both strikers got off the mark early and it wasn’t long before Skipton found themselves 3 – 0 down. What in the end turned out to be the match highlight – was a scorching Riley free kick which dipped over the wall into the top-left corner and gave the Town keeper no chance. A few frustrated Town players stopped pressing and chasing the ball down, with 1 player’s encouraging shout of: ‘Don’t give up!’ Being met with the retort: ‘Why should I? No one else is bothering’. It was this philosophy that probably contributed to their relegation, and the penalty they conceded, which Kemp put away in the bottom left hand corner.
Quote of the match: ‘If you carry on like this then we’re going home’
Ref – 7/10. Tried his best to keep play moving, annoyed the opposition by wearing glasses and Dingham team socks.

Addingham 1st teams 5th league game of the season came at local rivals Pool FC where after the teams strong but winless start to the campaign needed to take 3 points off the team who on Saturday morning sat above them with 2 points. After taking no points off the league’s top 3 and only 1 point from mid table Pannal there was much hype surrounding this fixture, many suggesting it was a crucial early season 6 pointer.
With the injury list growing manager Simon Collins had a selection headache before the game but with the reserves having a well deserved week off after their back to back wins both Jaime Kemp and Jaime Flesher deservedly got there places amongst the bench. Silverthorne took his role in between the sticks, familiar defense that included Cummings, Marriott and Clarkson with Billy Bambouzal coming in to replace the injured pairing of Andy Collins and Ian Stuart. Addingham were back to full strength on the wings with the ever present Parkinson starting on the right and on the left Tom Bancroft was welcomed back. A strong midfield pairing of Jordan and Cockerham made up the quintet with Barrow getting the nod up front partnering Smith.
The game started brightly with the first chance coming just seconds after the first whistle. Handy footwork from Bancroft sore him pick up a lost ball in the corner before sending a low flyer in to the box only for the sliding outstretched Smith to miss by a hair.
Two minutes later Addingham were 1 up after Bancroft again fought for a lost ball before sending a well weighted through ball to Barrow. Barrow with work still to do beat his defender before sliding the ball under the outstretched keeper.
With Pool’s chances limited and Silverthorne showing presence at the back Addingham were not troubled. Moments later man of the moment Parkinson picked out Smith before firing wide and seconds later the same again with Cockerham surprisingly putting the ball wide from six yards.
Minutes later it was Bancroft who scored a comical solo goal. Coming in from the right past 3 defenders it looked like he had done too much before Pools defenders helplessly ran in to each other to show him the opening and again the ball was slotted home under the keepers body.
Soon it was 3-0 with Jordan battling well and passing to his midfield partner Cockerham, he took on 2 defenders with wizard like affect, a quick look up he sore Smith lose his marker. With a well timed pass Smith beat the offside trap to tap in what would be the final moment of the match.
On 25 minutes Pools center back went down. Going to clear a routine ball the player with the nearest players meters away fell to the ground in agony. The damage, a slipped kneecap. With the Ambulance 40 minutes away and the sun setting fast the game was abandoned. Much to the annoyance of the visiting fans and players alike. The game will be re-scheduled for later in the season. Pool remain above Addingham and with next Saturday’s game again in the cup the ever growing back log of games for Addingham’s 1st team grows worryingly long.
Addingham FC 2
Crosshills FC 1
A fantastic second win in a row for Addingham reserves in the Craven league, who took the confidence from their 5-1 away win last Saturday into a game against a Crosshills side who were 3rd in the league going into this game. After 25 minutes Steve Riley advanced on goal from the left and his deflected effort from close range gave Addingham a 1-0 lead. Crosshills started the second half with intent and were rewarded with a scrappy goal for continuous pressure. Although Crosshills were working hard to keep the ball in the Addingham half, they were left stretched in defence when a through ball from Jamie Kemp allowed Steve Riley to get in behind the defence and make it 2-1. The match was not over and it required some last ditch defending and hard work from Addingham to see it through. Some great saves were made by both Goalkeepers as both teams were pushed for 1 more goal, and with 5 minutes remaining, although they had played better in the second half there were no complaints from Crosshills when they had a low strike disallowed for being a long way offside. 6 points in 2 matches for Addingham sees them move up to 6th place in the table. Addinghams next match is away against Ingrow & Worth Valley FC. Players meet at 12.30 pm at the Legion.
A great game of football was played on a wet Saturday afternoon away trip to Barnoldswick for Addingham reserves in the Craven league. Barnoldswick started off brightly, and the lively start to the match saw encouraging attacks from both teams. After 20 minutes Addingham opened the scoring when Ben Fowler went past the last defender to go one on one with the goalkeeper and slot the ball inside the left post. Despite their initial protests the referee disallowed a Steve Riley effort for infringement on the goalkeeper, but Addingham put it behind them and a fantastic second half was started with the same attacking approach as the first, with a fine volley from outside the area by player manager Graham Johnson giving Addingham a 2 goal lead. Even a long range strike from Barnoldswick’s McGreachie was not enough to prevent Addingham getting their first away win of the season. There were some telling ‘Kemp-esque’ through balls, and Tom Holden impressed with his tenacity and bravery in midfield and ended a mazy dribble past 3 defenders with a sharp finish, and Riley’s effort wasn’t going to be disallowed this time when he lobbed the keeper to make it 4-1. Steve Perkins was rewarded for a committed display on the right to score from 6 yards after Jamie Flesher’s strike was only blocked. Goalkeeper James Tinsley had an excellent game and it was great to see the side playing with a sense of unity and players giving 100% all over the pitch. Addingham’s next match is at home against Crosshills FC. Players meet at 1pm on the top pitch.
